Stand Tall: A how-to on tall valve covers
As we make our Mustangs go faster we make changes to the valvetrain that at some point necessitate taller than stock valve covers to fit. Some like the "racy" look of taller valve covers but to the hard core enthusiast they serve a bigger purpose. The most common reason to use tall valve covers is to be able to fit aftermarket roller rockers and valvetrain stabilizers more commonly known as stud girdles. [06/20/2002] FFW Announces Ford "Big Blocks" Accepted in Pro Class

By: -

American Autosports Productions, the promoter of the FUN FORD WEEKEND all Ford drag race and car show series, announced that the Ford "Big Block" or mountain motor engines will now be accepted in the popular PRO Class, effective 06/29/02.

Ever since the FFW PRO Class cars were converted over to a tube frame chassis format, PRO 5.0 racers have been building and/or converting what has amounted to NHRA or IHRA legal Pro Stock Mustangs using the Ford small block engine with either nitrous oxide, centrifugal superchargers or a single turbocharger. The speeds and et''s of these power adder equipped small block Ford engines has become very compatible with the NHRA or IHRA Big Block Pro Stock speeds and et''s.

Therefore, at all FUN FORD EVENTS, any NHRA or IHRA legal Pro Stock 1979 or later Mustang, Cougar, T-Bird or Probe will be eligible for PRO Class competition. This will add considerable excitement for the fans, with the Big Block, non power adder cars competing against the small block power adder entries. The rules will call for a maximum displacement of 816 cubic inches (naturally aspirated only) and 2350 lbs. minimum weight with driver.

The PRO Class purse exceeds $12,000 at most events with the winners share guaranteed at $7500.
