[11/05/2002] Ford recalls nearly 600,000 vehicles

Ford annouced on Monday that it will be recalling about 572,795 Focus models from the 2000 and 2001 model years. One recall involves a bolt located in the front suspension which can become loose and cause vibration and noise. In a small number of cases, this problem has lead to the separation of the ball joint. The other recall involves Ford''s new Zetec engine. Ford stated that the location of the battery cable could cause smoke, wire melting, or under-hood fires.

Recently Ford extended its service program on 2000-2001 Focus vehicles because of the rear bearing seal. The United States'' number two auto manufacturer seems to be having serious quality control issues. Ford''s problems with the 1999 and 2003 Mustang Cobra have forced them to stop production. The powerplant problems in 1999 caused Ford to stop production, and cancel the 2000 model year.
