[04/24/2003] SVT Thunder will rumble across the plains

By: -

The SVT marketing and sales manager, Tom Scarpello, will be at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit for the Southwest Regional On Track Event. SVTOA Spring Thunder in the Southwest (full dates: Friday, May 9, through Sunday, May 11) will give you a chance to share your passion for performance with the man who helps set the course for the Ford Special Vehicle Team.

(By the way, Friday night Tom will take part in an all-Ford cruise to the Admiral Twin Drive-In on Route 66. And of course SVTOA members are welcome. Check for full details at the Hampton Inn when you arrive on Friday.)

The Hallett, Okla., circuit has long been a favorite of fans of fast Fords. Add a large helping of SVTOA members on the track, a measure of Meet and Greet, a couple cups of Car Show, a garnish of good food and more and you have a recipe for a great time.

The festivities open 7 p.m. Friday with the Meet and Greet at the Hampton Inn. Saturday, there will be driving skills activities at the circuit, the car show and an open track at the road course. Be sure to check out SVT''s very own SVT Product and Merchandise Display. A barbecue dinner at the track will cap the day.

Sunday both the driving skills activities and the road course open track are on the menu, as well as the SVT Product and Merchandise Display.

The cost for SVTOA members is $245 for the weekend. The charge for a member sharing a car with a family member is $295. An individual who does not belong to SVTOA will pay $285 -- but gets a year''s SVTOA membership in the process. For those who don''t wish to drive, spectator admission is $10. Entrance to the car show is pegged at $15.

Can''t make it for the entire weekend? You may now sign up for just one day. The cost is only $150.

Covered parking and camping are also available at the track. Contact Scott Stephens at 918-583-1134 for rates and reservations. Plus, SVTOA has a block of rooms at the Hampton Inn for $69 plus tax per night. To make reservations, call 918-245-8500. For more details and to pre-register, click here.

If you can''t make it to Hallett for Spring Thunder but still want an outlet for the spring fever that''s been coming to a boil, SVTOA membership offers other outlets for your performance driving needs.

Western Regional On Track pre-registration is now closed. You may still register this coming weekend, Friday, April 25, and Saturday, April 26, at Famoso Raceway near Bakersfield, Calif. Sunday, there will be a cruise from Bakersfield to Knott''s Berry Farm for this year''s edition of Fabulous Fords Forever.

Or perhaps you want to drive on a road course storied in legend and lore? SVTOA can make that happen at the Southern Regional On Track at Sebring International Raceway. SVTOA Sebring Sensation will give you a chance to drive on the circuit where Ford GTs and Shelby Cobras battled the factory Ferraris in endurance races. Plus, the May 2-4 event is combined with this year''s edition of Camp Steeda, so you''ll have a chance to observe and learn from Steeda''s team racers and tuners.

And then there''s the one that promises to be the Granddaddy of them all, the 2003 SVT Experience.

Not only does this event honor the 10th Anniversary of the Special Vehicle Team, but it offers three venues for performance driving. This event is so big it takes place over six day and is centered at Ford World Headquarters in Dearborn, Mich. Better yet, the Experience is being held in conjunction with The Road is Ours, the gala extravaganza celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Ford Motor Co., which runs from Thursday, June 12, through Monday, June 16.

In addition, SVTOA membership will give you access to even more Regional On Tracks across the continent during the rest of the year.

To learn more about the events mentioned here or the ones still being planned, contact SVTOA Membership Services at 866-377-8862.
