Toyo Tires® founded the "Take it to the Track™" public awareness campaign in 2002 to promote a safe alternative to illegal street racing. Many young enthusiasts engage in illegal racing on public roads, risking serious injury and even death to both participants and innocent bystanders. Street racing related accidents have become more prominent in the news, a trend that can eventually lead to stiffer legislation toward both enthusiasts and the automotive industry as a whole.

According to Gregg Vandermark, Manager, Performance Events and Activities, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corporation, "Our goal is to make young enthusiasts aware that there are local race tracks available for their use. Toyo sponsors a variety of events designed to provide, not only an opportunity to race their cars, but to enjoy any number of fun, entertaining activities associated with each event. This way, they will consider the race track their home base for their activity, rather than taking risks on public roads."

The Take it to the Track™ message precedes many NHRA® SUMMit™ Sport Compact Drag Racing events, and supports the NHRA® Street Legal Drags™ program. Professional drivers such as Team Toyo''s Abel Ibarra, Craig Paisley, Stephan Papadakis, and Scott Kelley, promote this program on the TV news and in radio interviews. In addition, support materials such as a colorful informational brochure, are available at no charge to young people and organizations such as schools, tracks and law enforcement. A dedicated web site, located at www.takeittothetrack.org, provides updated information on how to get started in legal racing at a local track, and includes a comprehensive guide to racetracks around the country. In addition, a 2-minute streaming video is being integrated into the site, talking about the program and the negative effects of illegal street racing.
